PV Sindhu Elected Chair Of BWF Athletes’ Commission For 2026-2029 Term, To Join BWF Council

Two-time Olympic medallist and former world champion PV Sindhu has been elected as the Chair of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes’ Commission for the 2026–2029 term, according to Olympics.com. With this prestigious appointment, Sindhu will also become a member of the BWF Council, giving athletes a stronger platform in shaping the sport’s global governance.

Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in her by fellow athletes, Sindhu said she is humbled by the responsibility. She also acknowledged Greysia Polii, who previously served as Chair, for her remarkable contribution.

“To be entrusted with this responsibility by fellow athletes is an honour I carry with humility and gratitude. I would also like to sincerely acknowledge Greysia Polii for the exceptional work she has done in the previous term,” Sindhu said.

Greysia Polii, Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist and Asian Games champion, retired in 2022 after serving multiple terms on the Athletes’ Commission.

Sindhu added that she is eager to work closely with BWF to ensure stronger representation and lasting positive changes for players worldwide.

“I’m deeply looking forward to working closely with BWF to represent every single player and to fight for meaningful, lasting change that truly matters,” she said.

Sindhu, India’s most decorated badminton star with Rio 2016 silver and Tokyo 2020 bronze, has been part of the Athletes’ Commission since 2017 and has also served as an Integrity Ambassador since 2020. The 30-year-old athlete will also lead India at the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships in Qingdao, China.

Alongside Sindhu, Debora Jille of the Netherlands has been elected Deputy Chair. Other members include reigning Olympic champion An Se-young of South Korea, six-time African Games medallist Doha Hany of Egypt, and Paris 2024 gold medallist Jia Yifan of China.

In para-badminton, Chan Ho Yuen Daniel of Hong Kong China will take over as full-time Chair, while India’s Abu Hubaida continues as a member of the commission.
