Putin Backs Trump After Nobel Snub, Slams Committee For Ignoring ‘Real Peace Efforts’

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has sparked fresh global debate after U.S. President Donald Trump was snubbed for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Just hours after the announcement, Putin lashed out at the Nobel Committee, accusing it of honoring candidates with “no achievements for peace.”

In a statement that reignited geopolitical controversy, Putin not only defended Trump but also endorsed his Middle East peace initiatives, particularly his Gaza ceasefire proposal. The Russian leader described Trump’s approach as “a practical step toward dialogue and de-escalation,” contrasting it with what he called the Nobel Committee’s “politically motivated decisions.”

“Those who truly work toward peace are often ignored, while those with no tangible results are celebrated,” Putin reportedly said.

The Russian president also emphasized that lasting peace in the region could only be achieved through the creation of a Palestinian state, signaling rare alignment with parts of Trump’s proposed framework for a two-state solution.

Putin’s remarks have drawn mixed reactions worldwide. While some analysts view his comments as an attempt to build diplomatic capital amid global isolation, others see it as part of his ongoing effort to position Russia as a peace mediator in the Middle East.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 was awarded earlier this week, though Trump’s nomination—pushed by several U.S. and European lawmakers—failed to make the final cut, reportedly due to “divisive global opinions” surrounding his foreign policy legacy.

Putin’s comments, coming immediately after the announcement, have added another layer of political intrigue to an already heated international debate over who defines global peace and diplomacy.
