Chandigarh [India], January 13: Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, on Monday expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for announcing financial assistance to the family of Constable Harshvir Singh, a Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) personnel who tragically lost his life in the line of duty.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), DGP Yadav thanked CM Mann, writing, “Thank you Hon’ble CM Punjab [Bhagwant Mann] for announcing Rs 2 crore for our martyr Constable Harshvir Singh.” He added, “Salute to the brave officer who laid down his life in the line of duty. He tragically lost his life after a high-speed car collided with an SSF vehicle on the Patiala-Bhawanigarh road.”
The financial aid of Rs 2 crore for Singh’s family will be disbursed as follows: Rs 1 crore as an ex-gratia grant from the Punjab government, and another Rs 1 crore from the Punjab Police Welfare Insurance by HDFC Bank. “Punjab Government will make an ex-gratia grant of Rs 1 crore. Another Rs 1 crore will be paid from Punjab Police Welfare Insurance. We stand with our martyrs,” DGP Yadav confirmed in his post. He further emphasized, “Punjab Police looks after its martyrs and their families.”
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when Constable Harshvir Singh’s SSF vehicle was struck by a high-speed car on the Patiala-Bhawanigarh road in Punjab’s Sangrur district, near Bald Kanchhiyan in Bhawanigarh town. Singh succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. His colleague, Mandeep Singh, also sustained injuries in the accident. CM Mann had shared this information in an X post following the mishap.
