Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], April 15: Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government after an FIR was filed against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa in connection with a grenade attack.
Warring alleged that the FIR was driven by political revenge and orchestrated at the behest of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. “It was the CM’s decision on when and how to send Bajwa to jail or file an FIR against him. The swiftness with which officers moved and registered the case clearly indicates that this is an act of political vendetta,” said Warring.
He further claimed that the case was filed just 30 minutes after Bajwa gave a media interview, calling it part of a larger conspiracy by the state government. Warring also questioned the rationale behind the FIR, stating that the information cited in the complaint had already been published in several Punjabi newspapers earlier, yet no action was taken then.
Raising concerns about the state’s internal security apparatus, Warring questioned the role of Punjab Intelligence, particularly referencing the recent grenade attack on BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s residence. “If intelligence had prior information, why was no preventive action taken? Now the CM claims they had no clue. Such contradictory statements reveal governance failure,” he added.
Warring also issued a warning to Punjab Police officials, urging them not to act as “puppets” of the government. “I advise the DGP and other senior officers to act with integrity because the political countdown can begin any time,” he cautioned.
He also acknowledged the support of fellow Congress leader Ravneet Bittu, saying, “I thank Bittu sahab from the bottom of my heart for standing with us.”
The controversy erupted after Bajwa made a controversial remark during a media interview, stating that “50 bombs have entered Punjab, 18 have exploded, and 32 are yet to go off.” Defending himself, Bajwa clarified that the information came from a source who feared for his safety and warned him due to his political position and family history with terrorism.
Reacting to Bajwa’s comments, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that if Bajwa’s intent was to spread fear, strict action would follow.
