Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and singer-turned-politician Anmol Gagan Maan has officially stepped down as the MLA from Kharar Assembly constituency, marking her exit from politics altogether.
The resignation was submitted on Sunday to Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.
Announcing her decision on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Maan wrote in Punjabi:
“My heart is heavy, but I have decided to leave politics. My resignation from the post of MLA to the Speaker should be accepted.”
She further added:
“My best wishes are with the party. I hope the Punjab government will live up to the expectations of the people.”
Maan had been elected as an MLA from Kharar in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. She also briefly served in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s cabinet, handling important portfolios such as tourism and culture, investment promotion, labour, and hospitality.
However, her stint as a minister was cut short when she was dropped during a cabinet reshuffle last year.
Before stepping into politics, Anmol Gagan Maan was a well-known Punjabi folk and pop singer, with hits like Suit, Ghaint Purpose, and Sherni to her name.
