Washington [US], December 5: Fans of the John Wick universe eagerly hoping for a second season of the The Continental spinoff series will be disappointed to learn that the show will not return for another installment.
The prequel series, which premiered on Peacock in September 2023, was created as a limited series and concluded its story with its three-episode run.
Producer Basil Iwanyk recently provided insights into the future of the franchise, confirming that The Continental will not be extended into a second season. “We were happy with season one,” Iwanyk shared, adding, “We did talk a little bit about season two, but the general feeling is that, if we’re going to have something on television in the John Wick universe, this Robert Levine version we went out with is probably the better direction for John Wick content on TV.”
Iwanyk expressed pride in the series, noting, “I loved making The Continental. I loved the 70s vibe, working with Albert Hughes, and everything about it. It was a really cool and bold idea.”
However, he hinted that future projects in the John Wick universe will be focused on shaping the overall direction of the franchise. “Now we want to create something that will help define the future of the franchise,” he explained.
This includes the upcoming John Wick spinoff, John Wick: Under the High Table, which has already generated significant buzz. Executive produced by John Wick star Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski, the show will pick up directly after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4.
While The Continental delved into the backstory of the iconic hotel, Under the High Table promises to explore the broader John Wick universe and continue the story of the critically acclaimed fourth film.
Despite the closure of The Continental, Iwanyk reassured fans that the John Wick franchise remains strong, with a fifth John Wick film currently in development, ensuring that the action-packed saga will continue to captivate audiences both on television and in theaters.
