Chandigarh (Punjab): Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Priyansh Arya lit up the 22nd match of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday with a blistering maiden century against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The young batter described the milestone as an “out of the world feeling.”
Despite wickets falling around him, Priyansh stood firm and launched a counterattack, scoring 103 runs off just 42 deliveries. His innings featured seven boundaries and nine towering sixes, with a stunning strike rate of 245.24.
“Out of the world feeling, I feel very happy, but I feel I should contribute more to the team. Shreyas told me to bat with intent, to go for it even with my first ball after I got out the last match. When Nehal came out to bat, I told him we would look for singles and doubles, but he told me You play the way with whatever first comes to your mind. All bowlers are good, any bowler could have troubled me,” — Priyansh Arya
With this innings, Priyansh registered the joint fourth-fastest century in IPL history, tying with Australia’s Travis Head, who scored his ton in 39 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2024 season.
Only three players have reached the milestone faster. Chris Gayle still holds the record for the fastest IPL century — a 30-ball carnage for RCB against Pune Warriors India back in 2013. Among Indian players, Priyansh’s ton is now the second-fastest, trailing only Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians in 2010.

Notably, Priyansh also became the eighth uncapped player in IPL history to hit a century. The elite list includes Shaun Marsh (2008), Manish Pandey (2009), Paul Valthaty (2011), Devdutt Padikkal (2021), Rajat Patidar and Yashasvi Jaiswal (2022), and Prabhsimran Singh (2023).
