Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Accuses Centre Of Obstructing Parliamentary Discussions

Wayanad (Kerala) [India], March 29: Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Saturday, criticized the central government, alleging that it is deliberately obstructing discussions in Parliament to avoid scrutiny.

Her remarks came after the Development Coordination and Monitoring Committees (Disha) meeting held at the Wayanad Collectorate.

Allegations Against the Government

Speaking to the media, Priyanka Gandhi said, “The government is not allowing a discussion. Their policy, as I have seen in the last few sessions of Parliament, is to avoid discussions in any way possible. Whether by provoking opposition protests or by not allowing the Leader of Opposition (Rahul Gandhi) to speak, they are using different methods.”

She further alleged that the ruling party is actively disrupting the democratic process, stating, “Usually, the opposition is blamed for sabotaging Parliament, but now, the government itself is doing it. This is probably new.”

Inauguration of Kattunayikka Unnathi Cultural Centre

Later in the day, Priyanka Gandhi inaugurated the 50-acre Kattunayikka Unnathi Cultural Centre in Vadakkanad, Wayanad, a village between Sultan Bathery and Mananthavady.

During her address, she highlighted several pressing local issues, including:

  • Drinking water shortages
  • Delay in completing a 12.5 km road project despite it being included in the central government’s list of sanctioned roads
  • Non-implementation of the crash guard iron rope fencing project, despite funds being sanctioned

Commitment to Local Development

Expressing concern over delays in infrastructure projects, she assured the community, “I will be happy to meet the concerned Minister to expedite the road project.”

She also emphasized the need for a permanent community structure, acknowledging the financial constraints. “It is important for you to have a permanent structure, but the high costs involved make the government reluctant to sanction funds,” she said.

Priyanka Gandhi committed to writing to the state government to push for the crash-guard fence project, ensuring the community’s demand is met.
