Priyanka Gandhi Lays Foundation For Women-Led Projects In Wayanad, Highlights Tourism Potential

Wayanad (Kerala) [India], March 28: Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi laid the foundation stone for multiple women-led developmental projects in Thavinhal Gram Panchayat, Wayanad, Kerala, on Friday. She emphasized the importance of women’s involvement in such initiatives and highlighted the district’s significant tourism potential.

Women-Led Development Projects

“Today, the foundation stone that I am laying is for the model Anganwadi ‘Take a Break’ center, which will serve as a rest and recreation hub primarily for tourists. However, it will be operated by the Kutumbachi ladies, along with a women-run cafeteria and park. I understand that since women are going to be running it, it is going to be very beautiful,” Priyanka Gandhi said while addressing the gathering.

She further underscored women’s capabilities, stating, “We are very good at running things. Very often, men underestimate what women can do. We efficiently manage homes, families, and workplaces with great commitment and dedication. Most importantly, we approach tasks with kindness and care, which makes a significant difference.”

Tourism Potential and Community Involvement

Highlighting Wayanad’s natural beauty and tourism prospects, Gandhi praised the heavy community involvement, particularly that of women, in these projects.

“Your panchayat has immense tourism potential. The natural beauty and other assets make it a prime location. Projects like this will help attract more tourism and benefit the entire community. My compliments to the panchayat for involving local communities and the Kutumbachi ladies in this initiative,” she said.

Educational and Healthcare Initiatives

Priyanka Gandhi also spoke about advancements in education in the region, acknowledging the installation of interactive panels in primary and upper primary schools.

“We have also taken initiatives in education. I have been told that you have installed interactive panels in all the primary and upper primary schools, which is a very useful step,” she noted.

On the healthcare front, she acknowledged her brother and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi’s contribution, highlighting the donation of an ambulance for palliative care services.

“As you all know, my brother Rahul Gandhi had provided an ambulance here for palliative care, and the panchayat itself has appointed two nurses as well,” she said.
