In the ongoing high-profile legal battle over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, his widow, Priya Sachdev, has countered claims made by the counsel representing his ex-wife, actress Karisma Kapoor, and their children.
Priya Sachdev has informed the Delhi High Court that, contrary to allegations, the school fees for Karisma Kapoor’s daughter have been paid.
Allegations of Unpaid Fees Refuted
During the recent hearing before Justice Jyoti Singh, Senior Advocate Shyel Trehan, appearing for Priya Sachdev, responded to the claim that two months’ school fees of ₹95 lakh remained unpaid.
Trehan stated that the allegation was “factually incorrect” and confirmed that the semester fees for Karisma’s daughter had already been settled. Furthermore, the lawyer produced a payment receipt of ₹95 lakh and informed the court that the next installment is due in December.
The counsel claimed that Priya Sachdev has been independently bearing all educational and living expenses for the children since Sunjay Kapur’s death.
Legal War Over Assets Intensifies
This latest exchange comes amid a deepening legal conflict over Sunjay Kapur’s will and assets.
- Priya Sachdev vs. Rani Kapur: The day prior, Priya’s legal team, led by Rajiv Nayar, strongly denied accusations from Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, who alleged that Priya had concealed her son’s assets. Nayar called these allegations “baseless and reckless,” asserting that a detailed list of all assets has been filed and “no money has been moved abroad.”
- Asset Breakdown: Priya’s lawyers also addressed Rani Kapur’s claims about Sunjay’s salary, confirming that he received a salary of ₹10 crore and a one-time bonus of ₹50 crore for the financial year 2023-24. After TDS deduction, ₹36.5 crore was received, of which ₹28.5 crore was spent on purchasing immovable assets in London.
- Karisma’s Children’s Petition: Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, had previously moved the Delhi High Court demanding a share of their late father’s assets, alleging that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, had forged Sunjay’s will. They recently filed a new petition seeking to restrain Priya from transferring or altering any of Sunjay’s assets until the matter is resolved. Karisma is representing her children in this ongoing inheritance drama.
