Elvis’ ex-wife opens up about painful realization through fan mail, reflects on their complicated love

Priscilla Presley, the former wife of rock and roll icon Elvis Presley, has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she discovered her husband’s infidelity during their marriage.
In a candid conversation at a recent event, the 79-year-old actress and businesswoman revealed how fan mail unexpectedly exposed Elvis’ extramarital affairs, making her realize that he was “living another life.”
“It Was Hard… It Was a Man’s World”
Priscilla described the challenges of being married to one of the most famous men in the world, highlighting how Elvis’ lifestyle made their relationship increasingly difficult.
“It was hard, you know, to get used to all the guys, not just Elvis but all the guys. They were like this, and I love them all, but it was a man’s world, and I was really the only woman,” she shared, as per People magazine.
Elvis’ frequent absences only added to her growing suspicions. “He was gone a lot,” she admitted, revealing that she often heard rumors about his activities.
However, it wasn’t just whispers—Priscilla stumbled upon the truth in a way she never expected.
The Fan Mail That Changed Everything
During a visit to their Palm Springs home, Priscilla decided to check the mail. What she found shattered her trust in their marriage.
“A lot of it was like, ‘Oh Elvis, thank you for the invite,'” she recalled, referencing letters from women who had apparently spent time with the music legend.
Some letters were even more explicit. “Elvis, I had the best night with you. Thank you so much,” she read in disbelief.
That moment confirmed her worst fears. “It was getting worse,” she confessed, adding, “I decided, gosh, he’s living another life, and I just couldn’t take it. Every time he’d go to Vegas or even Palm Springs, it was difficult.”
Love After Divorce: “He Would Drop By Unannounced”
Despite the heartbreak and separation, Priscilla emphasized that their affection for each other remained intact even after their 1973 divorce.
“He was famous, he was loving, he was a beautiful, beautiful man, [but] I just couldn’t take it. It just was not a good life for me,” she admitted.
Elvis continued to visit her home unexpectedly, even when she was dating other people.
“He would drop by my home unannounced, and I was going with someone, by the way. I quickly tried to get to the door before he rang the doorbell, and of course, he came in. We went into the kitchen and talked for a couple of hours,” she recalled with a laugh.
A Year of Family Milestones
Priscilla’s recent revelations come just over a year after the passing of her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley in January 2023.
She also made headlines for attending the 2024 Emmy Awards with her granddaughter, Riley Keough, who was nominated for her role in Daisy Jones & the Six.
Following a legal dispute over Lisa Marie’s trust, Priscilla and Riley reached a settlement in November 2023.
After finalizing the agreement, Priscilla expressed her gratitude:
“As a family, we are pleased that we resolved this together,” she said. “My family and I hope that everyone will grant us the privacy we have needed to properly grieve Lisa Marie and spend personal time together. We love and appreciate all of you, and the Presley family is stronger than ever.”
