New Delhi [India], February 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday to partake in the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025. He took a boat ride along the Yamuna River with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath before proceeding to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati. He also offered prayers to Maa Ganga, marking his participation in one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings.
The Mahakumbh, which started on January 13, 2025, during Paush Purnima, attracts millions of devotees from around the globe and will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26. The event serves as a significant religious and cultural occasion, and PM Modi’s participation highlights his ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting India’s spiritual heritage.
During a previous visit to Prayagraj in December 2024, PM Modi inaugurated 167 development projects worth Rs 5,500 crore to enhance the infrastructure, connectivity, and facilities at the pilgrimage sites.
As of Wednesday morning, over 3.748 million devotees had already taken a holy dip at the Sangam, with more than 10 lakh Kalpvasis and 2.748 million pilgrims arriving in the early hours for divine blessings. Uttar Pradesh government data reveals that the total number of bathers since the beginning of the Mahakumbh has exceeded 382 million as of February 4, underscoring the event’s unparalleled spiritual importance.
In addition, on Tuesday, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk participated in various spiritual activities during his visit to Prayagraj for Mahakumbh 2025, accompanied by CM Yogi Adityanath. The two leaders visited the Lete Hanuman Mandir and the Digital Mahakumbh Experience Centre.
