President Donald Trump Expected To Visit Israel This Week Following Gaza Ceasefire Breakthrough

President Donald Trump of the United States is going to Israel this week. This will be his first trip there since he became president again. The visit is expected to happen after the recent breakthrough in talks between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas to end the fighting.

The Republican leader told Axios that the trip was very likely and that he might speak to the Israeli parliament.

“I should be in Israel in the next few days.” Trump remarked, “They want me to speak in the Knesset, and I will do it if they want me to.” The Israeli news site Ynet said that the US President is expected to arrive in the nation on Sunday.

Honoring the Gaza Peace Deal

On Wednesday, President Trump used the platform Truth Social to personally announce the first part of the ceasefire arrangement that was negotiated between the two delegations in Cairo.

He said, “I am very happy to say that both Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of our Peace Plan.” This means that all of the hostages will be freed very soon, and Israel will pull back its troops to a line that everyone agrees on as the first steps toward a strong, durable peace. “Everyone will be treated fairly!”

Trump told reporters that he was very happy with the outcome and called the deal “a great day for the world.” He said, “Israel, the whole world has come together on this one. Every country has come together.” What a great day this has been… This is a great day for everyone.

The news comes after reports of an “emotional phone call” in which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Trump for helping to make peace in Gaza.

The background of Trump’s ties to Israel

The trip will be President Trump’s first formal visit to Israel since he came back to the White House. He last came in 2016. Since then, his administration has made a number of important steps that have affected US-Israel relations:

Recognition of Jerusalem: In 2017, Trump made an official statement as president that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel.

Moving the Embassy: After that, Obama directed the US embassy in Israel to move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
