Russian President Putin To Visit India Following PM Modi’s Invitation During Bilateral Talks

Moscow [Russia]: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on Sunday, reaffirming the strategic depth of the India-Russia relationship, which TV BRICS described as a “uniquely privileged partnership.”

According to the official website of the Russian President, the leaders discussed mutual cooperation, regional security, and counterterrorism. President Putin expressed condolences over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, and both leaders emphasized the need for continued global and bilateral cooperation to combat terrorism.

Prime Minister Modi also congratulated the Russian people on the upcoming 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (World War II), calling it a shared moment of pride and remembrance for both nations.

In a significant gesture, PM Modi extended a formal invitation to President Putin to visit India for the annual bilateral summit, which, as per TV BRICS, was warmly accepted by the Russian side.

In line with these commemorations, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth visited Moscow from May 8–9 and participated in the Victory Day Parade, a major annual event marking the Soviet Union’s role in World War II.
During his visit, MoS Seth laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and joined global dignitaries at the Red Square parade on May 9.

Seth also met Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin and discussed the ongoing military and technical cooperation between the two countries. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen defence ties through existing institutional mechanisms and continue consultations amid evolving regional and global security challenges.

MoS Seth also called on President Putin, offering formal congratulations on Victory Day and thanking Russia for its consistent support in India’s fight against state-sponsored cross-border terrorism.
