New Delhi, January 26: On the eve of India’s 76th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu delivered a poignant address emphasizing the Constitution’s pivotal role in shaping modern India and outlining the nation’s strides in economic, scientific, and educational spheres. She also backed the ‘One Nation One Election’ initiative, highlighting its potential to strengthen governance and reduce policy paralysis.
Celebrating 75 Years of Constitutional Progress
President Murmu congratulated citizens, soldiers, and officials, acknowledging their contributions to building a prosperous and unified India. She noted that 75 years of the Constitution have brought significant progress and underscored its foundational role in enabling India’s democratic journey.
“Our Constitution is the blueprint for a thriving democracy that binds us in unity and diversity. It has been instrumental in guiding India’s transformation into a global economic and cultural powerhouse,” said the President.
Economic Growth and Global Leadership
President Murmu highlighted India’s economic resilience, noting high growth rates and structural reforms, including the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, which have strengthened the banking sector.
“Today, India’s economy influences global trends, and bold reforms have created job opportunities, lifted millions out of poverty, and laid the groundwork for sustained growth,” she said.
The President also lauded initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and direct benefit transfers for promoting financial inclusion and transparency.
Technological and Scientific Achievements
The President celebrated India’s advancements in science and technology, referencing the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) successful Space Docking Experiment.
“ISRO has made the nation proud, positioning India as the fourth country globally to achieve this capability,” she noted.
She also highlighted the National Quantum Mission, the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems, and the Genome India Project, which recently sequenced the genome of 10,000 Indians, calling it a “defining moment in biotechnology research.”
Education and Cultural Preservation
Focusing on education reforms, President Murmu praised increased investments and efforts to promote regional languages, improve digital access, and uplift marginalized communities.
“The last decade has transformed education in India, fostering a culture of quality learning and inclusivity. Women teachers have played a pivotal role, constituting over 60% of recent appointments,” she said.
On cultural heritage, she acknowledged initiatives to preserve classical languages, expand research, and establish India’s first Archaeological Experiential Museum in Vadnagar, Gujarat.
Advocating for Sustainability
Addressing the global climate crisis, the President urged citizens to contribute actively to sustainability through initiatives like Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, emphasizing Gandhian principles of compassion and environmental care.

President Murmu advocated for the ‘One Nation One Election’ policy, citing its benefits in fostering policy continuity and reducing financial burdens.

With a vision for India at its centenary in 2047, the President called upon the youth to drive the nation’s aspirations.
