New Delhi [India], July 9: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, which claimed nine lives and injured several others.
The incident took place around 7 AM on Wednesday when a slab of the Gambhira bridge in the Padra area suddenly collapsed. Emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), were immediately deployed for rescue and relief operations.
President Murmu conveyed her condolences via a post on X, stating,
“The news of the death of several people in a bridge accident in Gujarat’s Vadodara district is extremely tragic. I express my deep condolences to the bereaved families. My prayers are that all those injured in this accident recover quickly.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his grief, ensuring that the government is taking all necessary steps for relief.
“The accident that occurred in Vadodara district of Gujarat is very tragic. The NDRF team has reached the accident site and is engaged in relief and rescue operations, and all possible assistance is being provided to the victims. My condolences are with those who have lost their loved ones in this accident. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured,” said Amit Shah in a post from the Home Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister’s Office said,
“The loss of lives due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district, Gujarat, is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given ₹50,000.”
As of now, nine people have been confirmed dead, and nine others have been rescued. Rescue teams are continuing operations, and an investigation is likely to follow to determine the cause of the collapse.
