New Delhi [India], April 15: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday addressed a group of 2023 batch IAS officers currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various Union Ministries and Departments, during their visit to the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.
In her address, President Murmu lauded the officers for their determination and hard work in joining the Indian Administrative Service, calling it a transformative milestone in their personal lives. She emphasized that this achievement now provides them with a unique opportunity to bring meaningful change to the lives of others.
“With even more dedication, you can bring about transformative changes in the lives of countless people,” she said, urging the officers to focus on uplifting the underprivileged during their postings. She also encouraged them to revisit their previous places of service during their career journey to witness the long-term impact of their work.
Highlighting the significance of civil service ethics, President Murmu reminded the officers that their duties are responsibilities, and their rights serve as tools to fulfill them. “Your real career story will be written by your work, not by your popularity on social media. Your true social net worth will be determined by the good you do,” she noted.
She also stressed the importance of integrity, simplicity, and truth in public service. “There is no greater virtue in public service than honesty. Pollution of immorality and erosion of values are serious threats. Those who follow the path of truth, honesty, and simplicity lead more fulfilling lives,” the President said.
In light of increasing public expectations in the digital age, President Murmu advised the young officers to remain connected with citizens, promote community participation, and address issues raised by public representatives. She underlined that their development and welfare initiatives at the grassroots level would directly contribute to national progress.
