Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 21: President Droupadi Murmu joined the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations on Saturday in Dehradun, performing yoga asanas alongside Uttarakhand Governor Gurmeet Singh at the Police Lines ground. The event was part of the nationwide observance themed ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’.
The celebration in Dehradun saw active participation from state officials and citizens as part of the broader, country-wide campaign promoting the physical, mental, and environmental benefits of yoga.
The President is currently on a three-day visit to Uttarakhand, which concludes today. On June 20, she inaugurated the Rashtrapati Niketan for public viewing and visited the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities. There, she interacted with students, observed a model science lab, and witnessed an exhibition. She also released a commemorative postage stamp marking 125 years of Raj Bhavan, Nainital.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national Yoga Day event from Visakhapatnam, where he emphasized yoga’s role in global peace and wellness. “Let inner peace become a global policy. Let yoga be embraced as a collective responsibility,” PM Modi said, calling for a worldwide mass movement rooted in health, unity, and well-being.
The Visakhapatnam event drew lakhs of participants, with Indian Navy ships stationed off the coast to mark the occasion. PM Modi was joined by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan, and other dignitaries.
Multiple Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and public representatives also marked the occasion with events in their respective states, contributing to the broad national and international spirit of the day.
