Speaking to the media, Chopra emphasized that Manoj Kumar deserved to be honored with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award:

Manoj Kumar passed away at 3:30 AM on April 4 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to cardiogenic shock following an acute myocardial infarction. He had also been battling decompensated liver cirrhosis for several months.
