Preity Zinta Slams Third Umpire Over Controversial Call In PBKS Vs DC Match, Calls It “Unacceptable”

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 25: Bollywood actor and Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta voiced strong criticism over a controversial third umpire decision during her team’s match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The incident in question occurred during the PBKS batting innings on Saturday when batter Shashank Singh struck what appeared to be a six on the final ball of the 14th over. However, after a third umpire review, the shot was declared not a six, and only a single run was awarded. The umpire determined that there was no conclusive evidence of fielder Karun Nair touching the boundary rope during his save.

Taking to her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Zinta expressed her frustration with the decision, stating that such errors are “unacceptable” in a high-profile tournament like the IPL, especially given the technological resources available to officials.

“In a such a high-profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke to Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6! I rest my case,” wrote Zinta.

The actress, known for her vocal support of PBKS and active presence on social media, shared that she had spoken directly to Karun Nair, who acknowledged that the ball had indeed crossed the boundary line.

Despite the on-field controversy, the match ended in a thrilling victory for Delhi Capitals. Rising star Sameer Rizvi delivered an explosive performance, smashing an unbeaten 58 off just 25 deliveries. His knock, laced with three boundaries and four sixes, powered DC to successfully chase the 207-run target in 19.3 overs, sealing a dramatic six-wicket win at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

While PBKS were unable to secure a win in the encounter, they had already secured a playoff spot prior to the match and currently sit second on the points table with 17 points.
