Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram- The Congress party in Kerala’s capital district is in a bad spot before the important local body and assembly elections since a private phone call with Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee (DCC) president Palode Ravi was leaked. Malayalam TV stations aired a supposed contact between Ravi and a local party worker on Saturday. In the call, Ravi purportedly talks about how worried he is about problems within the party and even forecasts a bad future for the Congress in the elections.
Ravi clearly says in the recorded call that he is worried about “groupism and selfishness among local leaders,” which he says are “damaging the party.” He says that “mutual respect and trust have eroded” within the party, and that leaders are “only interested in backstabbing each other, and no one is working among the people.”
Bad Predictions for Elections and Lack of Trust
Ravi’s dismal projections for the party’s performance in the elections are the worst portion of the supposed discourse. He is heard saying that if things keep on this way, the Congress will come in a very bad third place in the next local body elections. He thinks the party will “fall flat” in the next assembly election, which is a long way off.
Ravi also says specific things about the BJP’s approach and how it could affect Congress’s chances: “The BJP is focusing on at least 60 assembly seats where they’ll give out money and get roughly 50,000 votes. He says, “The Congress will lose those seats, and the CPI(M) will continue to rule.” This shows how little faith he has in his party’s ability to deal with these problems.
Congress Leadership Projects Hope, Ravi Explains
The Congress leadership has been working hard to present an image of great optimism, so this leak comes at a really bad time for them. The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has been giving off signals that it is sure it would win big in the next elections.
Palode Ravi, a former Deputy Speaker and MLA, swiftly made things clear, downplaying the growing uproar. He told reporters that what he said in the leaked call was only meant to “motivate” grassroots activists and encourage them “to rebuild the organizational network and work harder on the campaign.”
“I don’t know how the call got out. He said, “Team UDF is united in its campaign, and I was only asking workers to come together to win back the local bodies we lost in the previous elections.” He was trying to limit the harm from the internal criticism.
Congress Gets Ready for Local Body Elections While Under Internal Scrutiny
Even if things are going badly inside the Congress party, they are still making detailed plans for the local body elections. Senior executives have been given important jobs to run campaigns in three big city corporations:
Senior leader K Muraleedharan is in charge of Thiruvananthapuram.
V D Satheesan, the leader of the opposition, will be in charge of Ernakulam.
Ramesh Chennithala, a member of the Congress Working Committee, is in charge of Kozhikode.
The upcoming local body elections are tentatively set for December of this year, which will be a very important election. Next, the important assembly elections will take place in April of next year. The leaked chat, no matter what its objective was, definitely makes the Congress’s campaign activities in Kerala more difficult and open to criticism from within.
