Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 9: Prayagraj is all set to host the grand Mahakumbh Mela 2025, which will begin on January 13 and run until February 26. The event, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, is expected to draw millions of devotees, and the city is fully prepared for the influx of people.
To ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the event, Uttar Pradesh Police have implemented a seven-layer security system. In addition, a comprehensive security check campaign has been launched, with over 2,700 AI-enabled cameras installed across the city to monitor activities.
The state government has also taken steps to handle medical emergencies during the Mela, deploying 125 road ambulances, equipped with 15 Advanced Life Support (ALS) systems, as well as seven river ambulances. These ambulances will be stationed strategically, with one river ambulance already in operation and the rest set to be deployed in the coming days. Additionally, air ambulances are available for any critical medical situations.
Speaking to ANI, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said, “We have equipped 125 road ambulances with ALS support. River ambulances are also stationed to manage emergencies. The government has made thorough arrangements to deal with any situation during the Mahakumbh.”
As the event approaches, the atmosphere in Prayagraj is filled with spiritual fervor. Several prominent Akhadas, including Niranjani Akhada, Atal Akhara, Mahanirvani Akhara, Ahwan Akhada, and Juna Akhada—the largest in the Sanyasi tradition—have already set up camp in the city, marking the start of the sacred gathering.
The Mahakumbh, celebrated once every 12 years, is expected to attract more than 45 crore devotees. The main bathing rituals, or Shahi Snan, will take place on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami), when pilgrims will gather at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers—to take a holy dip believed to cleanse their sins and grant moksha (liberation).
The Mahakumbh Mela will conclude on February 26, with the government ensuring all necessary measures are in place for the safe and successful conduct of the event.
