New Delhi [India], June 2: BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal strongly defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of national security matters, asserting that the PM is fully capable of managing threats without relying on suggestions from opposition leaders. His comments came in response to criticism by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge over the PM’s statements regarding Operation Sindoor.
“PM Modi knows better how to deal with the enemies and what strategy should be made for that. We have seen how our forces defeated the enemies and destroyed them. PM Modi does not need the advice or consultation of Mallikarjun Kharge or any other leader,” Khandelwal told ANI on Monday.
He added that the Prime Minister has a proven record of taking decisive and effective actions on matters of national security:
“He can take the decision himself and after taking the decision, he can also implement it in a strong manner.”
Congress Demands Special Session Over Operation Sindoor
On Sunday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a veiled attack on PM Modi, urging him to refrain from making “self-glorifying” speeches after the military operation. Kharge stressed the importance of unity on issues of national security and called for restraint and parliamentary debate rather than campaign rhetoric.
“There should be no election campaign before the delegation reports are out… The Prime Minister should not make self-glorifying speeches. Let’s convene Parliament and talk,” Kharge said, also referencing that Pakistan had convened its Parliament for discussions.
The Congress has demanded a special session of Parliament to address the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, and the retaliatory Operation Sindoor, which involved precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).
Kharge Questions Government’s Transparency, CDS Remarks Prompt Further Demands
Kharge further alleged that the Modi government misled the nation and accused the Prime Minister of seeking personal credit for the armed forces’ bravery.
In a post on X, the Congress leader pointed to remarks made by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in Singapore, arguing they raise critical questions that necessitate a full review by an independent expert committee.
“The fog of war is now clearing. The CDS interview compels us to demand a special session to question our defence preparedness,” Kharge posted.
Political Rift Widens Over Defence Narrative
The debate over Operation Sindoor has intensified the political divide, with the BJP backing the Prime Minister’s leadership, and the Congress calling for greater parliamentary oversight and clarity on defence operations and communications strategy.
