Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener and wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh delivered a match-winning 69-run knock off just 34 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), playing a key role in PBKS’ dominant eight-wicket victory.
Prabhsimran’s blazing innings was studded with nine fours and three sixes, striking at a phenomenal 202.94. His attacking strokeplay, especially sweeps and switch hits, caught attention as he dismantled LSG’s bowling attack.
Prabhsimran on His Shots & Coach Ricky Ponting’s Influence
In the post-match presentation, Prabhsimran credited his extensive practice of unconventional shots and the mentorship of coach Ricky Ponting for his success.
“As everyone knows, he’s such a legend (talking about Ponting). He’s always very positive. He doesn’t think about what-ifs. He’s asked us to back our game.”
Talking about his sweeps and switch hits, Prabhsimran added:
“Have practiced those shots a lot in the nets. This is one platform that can help you achieve your goal of playing for India.”
PBKS’ Clinical Performance in Chase
Chasing 172, PBKS lost Priyansh Arya (8) early, but Prabhsimran’s aggressive start set the tone. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (52 off 30)* and Nehal Wadhera (43 off 25)* ensured there were no hiccups, sealing the chase with 22 balls to spare.
For LSG, Digvesh Rathi’s 2/30 was the only silver lining in an otherwise disappointing bowling display.
PBKS Continue Strong Start in IPL 2024
With this victory, PBKS now sits second in the points table, while LSG slipped to sixth place with just one win in three games.
Prabhsimran’s form, backed by the aggressive mindset instilled by Ponting and PBKS’ management, makes the Punjab-based franchise a serious contender this season.
