Political Parties Stay Silent On Bihar Voter Roll Revisions: EC

The Election Commission of India (EC) says that no political party has made any claims or objections about the draft voter records in Bihar, even though there is still a lot of disagreement about them. The draft came out on August 1, and the EC encouraged people to report any problems with it. As of August 10, the EC had received 8,341 claims and objections, but all of them were from individual voters, not from any political party.

The EC’s response to claims of “vote theft”
The opposition INDIA group has been in a heated argument with the EC, which they say is seeking to remove a lot of votes from the rolls. Opposition politicians, like Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, have spoken out against the procedure in Parliament and even called the EC and the BJP “vote thieves.”

The EC has consistently told the public that no qualified voter will be taken off the rolls without sufficient notice and a fair hearing. The poll board also said that it is following its procedures, which provide that a comprehensive investigation and an official order from an Electoral Registration Officer are needed before any name may be removed.

New Voter Registrations and the EC’s View
The EC also said that it has gotten around 47,000 new voter registration papers from persons who are 18 years old or older. Harrison Fields, a White House spokesperson, said, “Every nominee of the President represents his promises to the American people and is in line with the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling.”

The EC’s daily update on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll is meant to make things clear during a period of high political tension.
