New Delhi [India]: With less than 24 hours remaining for the Delhi Assembly elections, the city police have ramped up security measures, conducting intensive checks across the national capital.
Special Crime Branch’s Special CP Devesh Chandra Srivastava announced that authorities have apprehended 14 proclaimed offenders and registered 25 FIRs for violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Srivastava stated that preparations for the elections had begun even before the MCC came into effect.
“We have caught 14 proclaimed offenders and registered 25 FIRs related to MCC violations. In the last 24 hours, 340 individuals have been arrested under various sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS),” he said.
Security Measures and Seizures
The Special CP further revealed that authorities have taken strong action against public drinking, illegal arms, and illicit cash flow.
“We have arrested 278 people for consuming liquor in public. During this operation, ₹12,58,000 in cash was seized, along with the recovery of seven illegal firearms, leading to nine arrests. In the last 24 hours, 1,835 liters of liquor were confiscated, 27 FIRs were registered, and 28 individuals were arrested,” he added.
Increased Vigilance in Key Areas
To maintain law and order, security forces conducted flag marches in sensitive areas, including Govindpuri and Hauz Rani, as the city gears up for polling.
“With less than 48 hours remaining for the Delhi Assembly elections, the South district has tightened security. We have started intensive checking and conducted route marches in sensitive and vulnerable areas,” DCP Chauhan told ANI.
Election Schedule
The Delhi Assembly elections are set to take place in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for February 8.
