Chandigarh (Punjab) [India]: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police arrested six members of the Kaushal Chaudhary gang, a criminal outfit linked to multiple high-profile murders, including those of kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian and Youth Congress leader Sukhmeet Singh.
The arrests were carried out by Counter Intelligence Amritsar, successfully preventing a planned target killing in the state.
Key Arrests and Seizures
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on X,
“In a major breakthrough, Counter Intelligence Amritsar foiled a major target killing in Punjab by arresting six members of the Kaushal Chaudhary Gang, including key associates Puneet Lakhanpal @ Sharma and Narinder Kumar @ Lalli.”
The accused had evaded arrest for three years and were found in possession of six sophisticated weapons and 40 live rounds. They were also connected to an indiscriminate firing incident at a hotel in Rajasthan and an extortion demand of Rs 5 crores.
Criminal History
The gang members have been linked to several violent crimes, including:
- The murder of kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian in 2022.
- The killing of Youth Congress leader Sukhmeet Singh in 2021.
- Indiscriminate firing at the Highway King Hotel in Rajasthan in September 2024.
Commitment to Peace
DGP Yadav commended the efforts of the police force, reiterating its dedication to dismantling organized crime networks and ensuring peace across Punjab. He stated,
“An FIR has been registered at PS SSOC, Amritsar. Punjab Police remains resolute in its commitment to dismantling organized crime networks and ensuring peace and harmony across the state.”
Infrastructure Development
In a separate development, the Punjab Government has allocated Rs 426 crores over the next three years to modernize and upgrade police buildings, including stations and police lines. This initiative aims to improve operational efficiency and enhance the effectiveness of the police force.
“The Rs 426 crore fund will be utilized to upgrade and modernize police buildings, especially police stations and police lines, and other police infrastructure across the state,” added DGP Yadav.
Crackdown on Drug Networks
In another major operation, Punjab Police arrested four individuals in Fazilka as part of its fight against illegal drug supply networks. The operation led to the seizure of over 2.10 lakh prohibited tablets, including Alprazolam and Clobidol 100.
