Mumbai Police have discovered multiple fingerprints of Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, the accused in the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, at the actor’s Bandra residence. The fingerprints were found on the building’s stairs, the toilet door, and the door handle of Saif’s son Jeh’s room.
The attack occurred last week when Shehzad allegedly entered Saif’s home intending to steal. A violent confrontation ensued, leaving the actor with stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body. Saif was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent treatment.
During the investigation, the police revealed that Shehzad had attempted to break into three other houses before reaching Saif’s residence. Officials believe the discovered fingerprints will be pivotal in the case.
Legal Developments
The accused was apprehended at Hiranandani Estate, Thane, while attempting to flee to his native village in Bangladesh. A case has been registered under sections 311, 312, 331(4), 331(6), and 331(7) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
However, Shehzad’s lawyer, Sandeep Shekhane, refuted the police claims, stating:
“The police have no proof that he is a Bangladeshi. They said that he came here 6 months ago, which is incorrect. He has been living here for more than 7 years. His family is in Mumbai… This is a clear-cut violation of 43A. No proper investigation has been done.”
Shekhane added that the court had directed the police to submit a report within five days, granting Shehzad five days of custody.
Saif’s Recovery
After undergoing surgery, Saif Ali Khan was discharged from Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday. Upon returning home, the actor greeted the media with a smile, appearing healthy and in good spirits. His wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and sister-in-law, Karisma Kapoor, were also seen at the Bandra residence.
The case was initially reported by Aleyamma Philip, a 56-year-old staff nurse, following the violent attack.
