New Delhi [India], February 11: A parliamentary delegation from Poland, led by Pawel Kowal, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Polish Parliament, met with Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, today at Parliament House in New Delhi. The meeting was marked by warm exchanges and discussions aimed at further strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Poland, particularly in the area of parliamentary cooperation.
Harivansh welcomed the delegation and praised the longstanding relationship between the two nations, noting that Poland is India’s most important partner in Central Europe. This relationship has evolved over the years, incorporating political exchanges, trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts. He also highlighted that 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland, an opportunity to reaffirm and celebrate their enduring friendship. The relationship has now been elevated to a strategic partnership, paving the way for deeper collaboration in key sectors, including trade, defense, energy security, and technology.
Emphasizing the importance of parliamentary exchanges, Harivansh noted the establishment of the India-Poland Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Polish Parliament. He expressed hope that such exchanges would lead to reciprocal visits by Indian parliamentarians to Poland, thereby strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and fostering stronger bilateral ties.
Harivansh also welcomed the growing interest among Polish scholars and students in contemporary Indian studies. He emphasized the importance of promoting academic exchanges to further enhance cultural and people-to-people relations.
Concluding the meeting, Harivansh expressed his hope that the visit of the Polish parliamentary delegation would provide fresh momentum to the rapidly expanding India-Poland partnership.
Present at the meeting were Members of Parliament Bhubaneshwar Kalita, P. Wilson, Sanjeev Arora, Ramji, Geeta alias Chandraprabha, and Mamata Mohanta, along with P.C. Mody, Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha.
