PM Narendra Modi Departs For Thailand To Attend 6th BIMSTEC Summit, Followed By Sri Lanka Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday morning to attend the 6th BIMSTEC Summit scheduled for April 4, 2025. His visit will be followed by a State Visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to April 6.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the Prime Minister’s departure, stating:

📢 “PM @narendramodi departs on a visit to Thailand & Sri Lanka. PM will be paying an Official Visit to Thailand & participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit. Thereafter, he will proceed on a State Visit to Sri Lanka.”


PM Modi’s Itinerary in Thailand 🇮🇳🇹🇭

📍 April 3, 2025:

  • Meeting with Thailand PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra to review bilateral relations and chart future cooperation.
  • Meeting with Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn to strengthen diplomatic ties.

📍 April 4, 2025:

  • Participation in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.
  • Key discussions on regional connectivity, trade, security, and economic cooperation.

📢 PM Modi on X: “Over the next three days, I will be visiting Thailand and Sri Lanka to take part in various programs aimed at boosting India’s cooperation with these nations and BIMSTEC countries.”


About the 6th BIMSTEC Summit 🌏

🔹 India’s Focus Areas:

  • Strengthening regional security
  • Facilitating trade and investment
  • Expanding physical, maritime, and digital connectivity

This is PM Modi’s third visit to Thailand and marks the first in-person BIMSTEC Summit since 2018 (the 2022 Colombo Summit was held virtually).

  • First high-level visit since Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake took office.
  • Bilateral talks on trade, security, infrastructure, and economic recovery.
