Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a warm and vibrant welcome in Trinidad and Tobago, with a traditional Bhojpuri Chautaal performance marking his arrival at Piarco International Airport. This is his first official visit to the Caribbean nation and the first bilateral trip by an Indian Prime Minister since 1999.

During his visit, PM Modi met members of the Indian community, acknowledging their vital role in Trinidad and Tobago’s development while lauding their deep-rooted cultural ties with India.

Modi also interacted with young winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz, including Shankar Ramjattan, Nicholas Maraj, and Vince Mahato, highlighting the global reach of the initiative.

PM Modi was received by Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, alongside 38 ministers and four Members of Parliament. He was given a ceremonial Guard of Honour on his arrival.
The visit is seen as a significant diplomatic outreach to strengthen India-Caribbean relations, celebrate shared heritage, and deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, education, culture, and diaspora engagement.
