Prime Minister Modi Vows Justice For Delhi Blast Victims, Links Conspirators To Kashmir Terror Cell

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the deadly car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi on Tuesday, vowing that the conspirators behind the attack that tragically killed 13 people will be brought to justice. His pledge came as investigators revealed crucial leads, including tracing the car involved in the blast to a Kashmir-based doctor with ties to a major terrorist cell.

Speaking in Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, at an event marking the 70th birth anniversary of the country’s former king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, PM Modi said he had arrived with a “heavy heart.” He disclosed that he had spent most of Monday night coordinating with authorities investigating the blast.

Commitment to Uncovering the Conspiracy

Addressing the gathering in Hindi, PM Modi expressed national solidarity with the affected families:

“Today, I have come here with a very heavy heart. The horrific incident in Delhi yesterday evening has left all of us deeply distressed. I understand the sorrow of the affected families. Today, the whole country stands united with them.”

He then gave a strong assurance that the perpetrators would not escape justice:

“Our [investigative] agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. The conspirators behind this will not be spared,” Modi said, adding in English, “All those responsible will be brought to justice.”

Investigation Points to Kashmir-Based Doctor

Despite Indian officials not yet formally attributing the blast to any specific terrorist organization, sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the investigation is tightly focused on a terror link:

  • Vehicle Traced: The white Hyundai i20 car that exploded near the Red Fort was traced to Umar Un Nabi, a doctor based in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Terror Cell Links: Dr. Un Nabi is linked to a terrorist cell that was recently connected to the seizure of a massive 2,900 kg cache of explosive materials in Faridabad, Haryana.
  • The Suspect: Delhi Police officers believe Dr. Un Nabi was likely driving the vehicle when it slowed down at a red light and exploded. He was also reportedly in contact with two other doctors from Kashmir who have recently been arrested.

The explosion severely damaged nearby vehicles, leaving 13 people dead and 21 injured.

Bhutan Solidarity

Despite the tragedy, Prime Minister Modi proceeded with his two-day visit to Bhutan. While attending the ceremony for former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, which Modi described as an “important day for those who believe in world peace,” he highlighted the enduring strength of the India-Bhutan relationship.

Following the Prime Minister’s address, Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck led thousands of people in a special prayer at the Changlimethang Stadium for the victims of the Delhi blast.
