New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30, where he will inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stone for a slew of development projects worth over ₹70,000 crore, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced on Wednesday.
Day 1: May 29 – Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar
Sikkim: Celebrating 50 Years of Statehood
PM Modi will kick off his visit in Sikkim at 11 AM, participating in the “Sikkim@50” event under the theme “Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim”.
Key highlights include:
- Foundation stone for a 500-bedded district hospital in Namchi (₹750 crore).
- Inauguration of a passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling in Pelling.
- Unveiling a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan.
- Release of commemorative coin, souvenir coin, and postal stamp.
West Bengal: Promoting Clean Energy
At 2:15 PM, PM Modi will reach Alipurduar to launch the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project for Alipurduar and Cooch Behar:
- ₹1,010 crore project to provide PNG to 2.5 lakh households and build 19 CNG stations.
- Aimed at employment generation and clean energy promotion.
Bihar (Patna): Airport Infrastructure Upgrade
At 5:45 PM, the Prime Minister will arrive in Patna to:
- Inaugurate the new passenger terminal at Patna Airport (₹1,200 crore) with a 1 crore annual passenger capacity.
- Lay the foundation stone of a civil enclave at Bihta Airport (₹1,410 crore).
Day 2: May 30 – Bihar & Uttar Pradesh
Karakat (Bihar): Mega Infrastructure Launch
In Karakat, PM Modi will unveil development projects worth ₹48,520 crore, including:
- Stage-II of Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project (3×800 MW) in Aurangabad (₹29,930 crore).
- Highway projects: Four-laning of NH-119A, six-laning of NH-319B, new Ganga bridge (Buxar-Bharauli), and more.
- Rail sector boost: Dedication of the third rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj (₹1,330 crore).
Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): Urban and Power Infrastructure
At 2:45 PM, the PM will be in Kanpur Nagar to launch projects worth ₹20,900 crore:
- Kanpur Metro: Inauguration of Chunniganj to Kanpur Central section (₹2,120 crore, 14 stations including 5 underground).
- Power sector:
- Inauguration of Panki Thermal Power Extension Project (660 MW, ₹8,300 crore).
- Inauguration of three 660 MW units at Ghatampur Thermal Plant (₹9,330 crore).
- Foundation for a 220 kV substation in YEIDA, and two 132 kV substations in Greater Noida (₹320+ crore).
- Water and Waste Management:
- Inauguration of 40 MLD Tertiary Treatment Plant at Bingawan (₹290 crore).
- Connectivity:
- Rail overbridges at Panki Power House and Panki Dham.
- Widening of Gauria Pali Marg and a four-lane road to Kanpur Defence Node.
Welfare Scheme Outreach
During the Kanpur event, the PM will also:
- Distribute certificates and cheques under Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, National Livelihood Mission, and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
