PM Modi to Chair CCS Meet Tonight as Middle East Conflict Escalates

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Sunday night after returning to Delhi, amid escalating tensions in West Asia following US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

According to sources, the Prime Minister is expected to land in Delhi around 9:30 pm after concluding a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, where he inaugurated several development projects. The CCS meeting will focus on the evolving security situation in Iran, the safety of Indian nationals in the UAE and other Gulf countries, and broader regional implications.

The high-level review comes days after Modi’s February 25–26 visit to Israel, during which India and Israel elevated their ties to a Special Strategic Partnership and signed 16 agreements covering defence, artificial intelligence, agriculture, energy and cultural cooperation. Addressing the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, Modi reaffirmed India’s firm support for Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Modi as “more than a friend, a brother.”

India’s Diplomatic Outreach

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it is “deeply concerned” about the conflict and urged all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation and prioritise civilian safety. The ministry emphasised that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path forward and reiterated the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke separately with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, conveying India’s concerns and reiterating the call for de-escalation.

Advisory for Indian Nationals

Indian embassies in Tehran, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi and Damascus have issued advisories asking citizens to avoid non-essential travel, stay alert, register on the MADAD portal and follow local security guidance.

Around 10,000 Indian nationals are currently in Iran, while nearly 9.6 million Indians live and work across the wider West Asia region. At present, evacuation is not under consideration due to closed and unsafe airspace, though missions remain in constant contact with the Indian community and helplines have been activated.
