New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation at 8 PM on Monday, amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, India’s largest anti-terror precision strike in recent years.
The address comes just days after India launched retaliatory airstrikes on nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on May 7, resulting in the killing of over 100 terrorists, according to official estimates.
In a joint press conference earlier on Sunday, Army Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Director General Air Operations Air Marshal AK Bharti, and Director General Naval Operations Vice Admiral AN Pramod briefed the media on India’s military readiness and strategic posture in response to continued provocations by Pakistan.
Air Marshal Bharti highlighted the success of Operation Sindoor, saying,
“We struck terror camps and logistical networks in Pakistan. The Pakistan military intervened, but any casualties on their side are entirely their responsibility.”
Lt Gen Ghai revealed that while there was a brief cessation of hostilities following communication with his Pakistani counterpart, the truce was quickly violated.
“We agreed to a ceasefire effective from 17:00 hrs on May 10, but the Pakistan Army violated it within hours through LoC firing and drone intrusions. These were responded to robustly,” he said.
India has reportedly put the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance and emphasized its right to firm and measured responses to Pakistan’s aggression.
PM Modi had previously warned that the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed, would be avenged in ways “beyond the perpetrators’ imagination.”
According to senior military officials, the Indian Armed Forces remain on high alert, and Army Commanders have been granted full authority to respond to future violations with force.
Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam attack, was characterized by precision strikes and strategic coordination across the Army, Air Force, and Navy.
The nation now awaits PM Modi’s address, which is expected to outline India’s stance on national security, the future course in India-Pakistan relations, and measures to ensure internal stability.
