PM Modi Sets an Example By Picking Up Waste At Kartavya Path During Republic Day Celebrations

New Delhi [India], January 26: On India’s 76th Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a powerful example by picking up waste at Kartavya Path, reinforcing the message of cleanliness and the “Swacch Bharat” (Clean India) initiative. His gesture, witnessed by thousands of people, underscored the importance of community involvement in maintaining public spaces.

While receiving Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, PM Modi noticed waste on the path and immediately picked it up, promoting the concept of “plogging” (jogging while picking up litter). This act was a clear reflection of the Prime Minister’s continued advocacy for cleanliness and environmental responsibility. PM Modi has consistently emphasized the need for active participation in cleanliness efforts, which play a crucial role in achieving a cleaner India.

The gesture was especially significant considering PM Modi’s previous remarks on plogging initiatives. In November 2024, he praised a group involved in cleaning the Ganga ghats in Kanpur during his Mann Ki Baat radio address. Later, in December 2024, the Ministry of Defence organized a nationwide plogging campaign, covering over 400 locations as part of the Swachhta Pakhwada.

Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national flag at Kartavya Path, marking the beginning of the Republic Day celebrations, which were followed by the national anthem and a 21-gun salute fired from indigenous 105-mm Light Field Guns. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto graced the event as the chief guest this year.

This year’s Republic Day also highlighted 75 years since the adoption of India’s Constitution, with a special emphasis on “Jan Bhagidari” (people’s participation). After the flag hoisting, PM Modi paid tribute to India’s fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial at India Gate. President Murmu, assisted by Indian Navy officers Lieutenant Shubham Kumar and Lieutenant Yogita Saini, also participated in the ceremony.

The celebrations saw an increase in public participation, with around 10,000 special guests invited to witness the parade. These individuals, who have made notable contributions in various fields and utilized government schemes effectively, were recognized as “architects of Swarnim Bharat” (Golden India). Additionally, 16 state governments and Union Territories, along with 10 ministries and departments of the Central Government, showcased their contributions to “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development) through colorful tableaux during the parade.
