Bangkok [Thailand], April 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Bangkok, Thailand, ahead of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit.
Warm Welcome by Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra
Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, shared that Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra extended a warm welcome to PM Modi at Government House in Bangkok.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jaiswal wrote:
“A special ceremonial welcome with Guard of Honour. PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra of Thailand warmly received PM Narendra Modi at the Government House in Bangkok today. The two leaders will have wide-ranging discussions for charting the way for future India-Thailand partnership.”
PM Modi Attends Thai Ramayana Performance, Highlights Cultural Ties
Ahead of the summit, PM Modi also witnessed a spectacular performance of Ramakien, the Thai adaptation of the Ramayana, which highlights the deep civilisational and cultural links between India and Thailand.
Sharing his experience, PM Modi posted on X:
“A cultural connect like no other! Witnessed a captivating performance of the Thai Ramayana, Ramakien. It was a truly enriching experience that beautifully showcased the shared cultural and civilisational ties between India and Thailand. The Ramayana truly continues to connect hearts and traditions across so many parts of Asia.”
The Ramayana holds immense significance in both India and Thailand, with Lord Rama (Phra Ram in Thai) being a revered figure in both cultures. The shared values of sacrifice, duty, and the triumph of good over evil continue to unite the two nations.
Indian Community Welcomes PM Modi
During his visit, PM Modi was also greeted by members of the Indian community in Bangkok, who chanted prayers and expressed their deep cultural bond with India.
He expressed gratitude, saying:
“Grateful for the warm welcome by the Indian community in Bangkok. India and Thailand share a deep-rooted cultural bond that continues to flourish through our people. Heartening to see this connection reflected so strongly here.”
BIMSTEC Summit to Strengthen Regional Cooperation
The 6th BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled for Friday, is a crucial regional engagement involving India and its Bay of Bengal neighbors. The summit will focus on enhancing multi-sectoral cooperation in trade, connectivity, security, and technology among BIMSTEC members.
