Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Semicon India 2025 conference on Tuesday, where he was presented with the first-ever made-in-India semiconductor chips. Kicking off his speech, PM Modi shared a lighthearted moment with the audience, who gave him a huge round of applause as he began by noting his return to India on Monday night after a diplomatic tour.
With a smile, he playfully asked the crowd, “Are you clapping because I went, or because I have returned?” The humorous remark drew laughter and applause from the audience, setting a warm and engaging tone for the event.
A Vision for India’s Semiconductor Future
During his address, PM Modi expressed strong confidence in India’s role in the global semiconductor landscape. He stated that the world “trusts, believes, and is ready to build the future of semiconductors with India.” He highlighted the nation’s ambitious vision for technological self-reliance, proclaiming, “The day is not far when the world will say, designed in India, made in India, trusted by the world.”
The Prime Minister also touched upon India’s robust economic performance. Citing the recent GDP numbers for the first quarter of the year, he noted that India has been “performing better than every expectation, every assessment.” He contrasted this growth with the global economic scenario, which is facing challenges from “economic selfishness,” positioning India as a beacon of stability and progress.
The three-day Semicon India 2025 conference is a pivotal event aimed at advancing a “robust, resilient and sustainable” semiconductor ecosystem within the country. The event reflects the government’s commitment to making India a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain and fostering a new era of technological innovation.
