PM Modi Reaffirms Government’s Commitment To Empowering Girl Child On National Girl Child Day

New Delhi [India], January 24: On National Girl Child Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering the girl child and ensuring a wealth of opportunities for them.

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi celebrated the achievements of girls across various fields, expressing pride in their accomplishments. “Today, on National Girl Child Day, we reiterate our commitment to continue empowering the girl child and provide a wide range of opportunities for her. India is proud of the feats achieved by girls in every sector, and their success continues to inspire us all,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s focus on key sectors such as education, technology, skills, and healthcare, which have played a pivotal role in empowering young girls. He also stressed the government’s determination to eliminate discrimination against them. “We are equally resolute in ensuring that no discrimination occurs against the girl child,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge extended his wishes on the occasion, emphasizing that “gender equality is the foundation of true progress.” Kharge pointed out that National Girl Child Day serves as a reminder to rededicate efforts toward ending gender discrimination and providing every girl with the opportunities she deserves. “The Congress-UPA established National Girl Child Day in 2008, rooted in India’s constitutional principles,” Kharge wrote on X. “Let this day remind us to continue working towards ending gender discrimination and ensuring that every girl has access to education, healthcare, safety, and proper nutrition.”

Celebrated annually on January 24, National Girl Child Day is a significant observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights, education, and welfare of girls. Initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2008, the day aims to emphasize the importance of empowering girls and creating a society where they can thrive without gender-based discrimination.

An official release from the Ministry of Women and Child Development noted that National Girl Child Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about girls’ rights and advocate for equal opportunities free from gender biases. The day also seeks to shed light on the inequalities faced by girls, promote their education, and encourage a society that values and respects girls as equals. Key issues such as female foeticide, the declining sex ratio, and fostering a more inclusive environment for the girl child are also central to the day’s message.
