PM Modi Praises Ilaiyaraaja’s Symphony Performance In London

New Delhi [India], March 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently shared on social media his meeting with the renowned music composer Ilaiyaraaja, praising his historical Symphony performance in London.

PM Modi expressed his admiration for the music legend, calling him a “musical titan” whose contributions have had a profound influence on both Indian and global music culture. Sharing pictures from the meeting, the Prime Minister wrote on X, “Delighted to meet Rajya Sabha MP Thiru Ilaiyaraaja Ji, a musical titan whose genius has a monumental impact on our music and culture.”

The Prime Minister highlighted Ilaiyaraaja’s groundbreaking achievement in presenting his first-ever Western classical symphony, Valiant, in London, performed with the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Modi called the performance a “momentous feat” marking yet another chapter in Ilaiyaraaja’s “unparalleled musical journey” that continues to redefine excellence on the global stage.

In response, Ilaiyaraaja also took to X, expressing his gratitude for the appreciation from the Prime Minister. “A memorable meeting with Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji. We spoke about many things, including my Symphony ‘Valiant’. Humbled by his appreciation and support,” he wrote.

Upon returning to India on March 10, Ilaiyaraaja was warmly welcomed at Chennai Airport by political and cultural figures, including Tamil Nadu Minister Thangam Thenarasu and BJP State Vice President Karu Nagarajan. Ilaiyaraaja thanked his fans for their overwhelming love and support, especially from the audience in London, which made his Symphony performance a huge success.

Ilaiyaraaja, a celebrated music composer in Tamil and Telugu cinema, has an illustrious career that spans over four decades. He has composed music for over a thousand films and is known for his blend of folk rhythms with classical techniques, making him a trendsetter in South Indian cinema. His iconic compositions, such as “Machana Pathingala” from Annakili (1975) and “Thenpaandi Cheemayile” from Nayagan (1987), have stood the test of time and continue to resonate with listeners worldwide.
