PM Modi Pays Tribute To Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Legacy And Vision For India’s Freedom

New Delhi [India], January 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a special address on the occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Jayanti, commemorated as Parakram Diwas, through a video message on Thursday.

PM Modi greeted the nation and paid his respects to Netaji, recalling his immense contributions to India’s struggle for independence. He noted that this year’s Parakram Diwas celebrations were being held in Netaji’s birthplace, Odisha, and congratulated the people and government of Odisha for organizing the events. He also highlighted a significant exhibition in Cuttack, showcasing Netaji’s legacy, with numerous artists depicting important moments from his life and a collection of books about his journey.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that these commemorations would inspire a new generation, especially in India’s ongoing mission to build a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). He said, “The legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will continue to inspire us as we work towards achieving the goal of a Developed India.”

PM Modi emphasized that Netaji’s primary mission was a free and independent India, or “Azad Hind.” Despite coming from a prosperous family and clearing the Civil Services Examination, which could have led him to a comfortable life under British rule, Netaji chose the path of hardship and struggle for India’s freedom. “Netaji Subhas was not bound by the comforts of his comfort zone,” PM Modi remarked, urging the country to step out of its comfort zone in the pursuit of excellence and to focus on efficiency in building a stronger nation.

The Prime Minister praised Netaji’s creation of the Azad Hind Fauj, which united people from various regions and backgrounds for the cause of independence, transcending differences in language and culture. “The unity displayed by the Azad Hind Fauj is a significant lesson for today’s quest for a Viksit Bharat,” he said, stressing the importance of unity for progress. “Just as unity was essential for Swaraj, it is now vital for a Viksit Bharat.”

Highlighting the global environment favorable for India’s growth, PM Modi stated that the world is watching as India sets its course for the 21st century. He urged the nation to remain vigilant against efforts to weaken the country’s unity and to continue drawing inspiration from Netaji’s ideals.

The Prime Minister also reflected on Netaji’s pride in India’s heritage and his encouragement to draw strength from the country’s democratic history. He noted that India is moving away from a colonial mindset and embracing its rich heritage with pride.

PM Modi shared his honor in hoisting the tricolor at the Red Fort on the 75th anniversary of the Azad Hind Government and highlighted the government’s efforts to honor Netaji’s legacy, including the establishment of the Netaji Subhas Museum at the Red Fort in 2019 and the initiation of the Subhas Chandra Bose Disaster Management Awards the same year. He also mentioned the installation of Netaji’s statue near India Gate, renaming an island in Andaman after him, and paying tribute to INA soldiers during Republic Day parades.

Looking ahead, PM Modi spoke about India’s remarkable progress over the past decade, from lifting 25 crore Indians out of poverty to strengthening the Indian Army and improving infrastructure across the nation. He expressed confidence that India is on the path to becoming the third-largest economy in the world. “The day is not far when India will be the third-largest economic power,” he asserted.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister urged the nation to continue working together towards a Viksit Bharat, drawing inspiration from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s vision. “This will be the true tribute to Netaji,” he said, wishing the country continued success in its journey of progress.
