NEW DELHI – During his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the start of a new program to help young people find jobs called the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana. The plan has a budget of ₹1 lakh crore and is meant to help people who are looking for their first job in the private sector and encourage businesses to hire more people.
Modi said that the government will give ₹15,000 to young people who get their first job as part of this new program. He also said that the program is likely to produce about 3.5 crore new jobs for young people. The plan started on Friday, August 15, 2025, and it also offers rewards to businesses who hire more people. Some reports say that the government will provide qualifying businesses up to ₹3,000 per employee each month.
Other Important Announcements
The Prime Minister also talked about a few other important programs, in addition to the job program:
Lakhpati Didis: Modi proudly said that two crore women had become “lakhpati didis” (women who make at least ₹1 lakh a year) because to the government’s several programs, such as the “NaMo Drone Didi” program. He said that a lot of these women were there to hear him speak at the Red Fort.
GST Reforms: Modi also said that “next-generation” Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms would be in place by Diwali. The goal of the revisions is to make tax brackets more fair and lower rates on ordinary purchases, which will be a “big gift” to the average person and help the economy.
Farmers’ Welfare: The Prime Minister said again that he is committed to defending the rights of farmers and fishermen. He said he is “standing like a wall” against any policies that would hurt them. He also complimented farmers for helping the economy, which has made India one of the world’s top producers of several goods.
