Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Karyakar Suvarna Mahotsav of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) via video conferencing, highlighted the significance of “sewa” (selfless service) in Indian culture and lauded BAPS volunteers for their transformative contributions across the globe.
PM Modi’s Tribute to BAPS
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister commended BAPS volunteers for their unwavering commitment to empowering marginalized communities and their inspiring dedication to service.
“In our culture, service is regarded as the greatest dharma. It is not just a word but a life value,” PM Modi stated, emphasizing the profound role of service in Indian traditions.
Efforts During Ukraine Evacuation
The Prime Minister recalled BAPS’s instrumental role during India’s evacuation efforts in Ukraine amidst the conflict in early 2022.
“When the war in Ukraine escalated, the Indian government decided to evacuate citizens trapped there. Indians arriving in Poland needed support, and I sought BAPS’s help. Overnight, your organization mobilized volunteers from across Europe to assist in this mission. This exemplifies your dedication to humanity,” he remarked.
A Milestone Celebration
The Karyakar Suvarna Mahotsav marks 50 years of BAPS’s dedicated spiritual and social service under the guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, who fostered a global network of volunteers. The event also honors Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s birth anniversary, celebrating his leadership and vision.
The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of this milestone:
“This ‘mahotsav’ is a heartfelt tribute to Pramukh Swami Maharaj, whose pioneering efforts have built a community of selfless volunteers, impacting millions of lives worldwide.”
Legacy of BAPS Volunteers
Since the formal establishment of BAPS’s organizational structure in 1972 under Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s guidance, volunteers have been instrumental in promoting values of service and devotion inspired by Bhagwan Swaminarayan and the Gunatit gurus. Activities for children, teenagers, youths, and adults continue to flourish globally under the leadership of the Satsang Pravrutti and Bal Pravrutti Central Offices.
Prime Minister Modi extended his best wishes to the volunteers and congratulated them on their achievements, reiterating their role as a beacon of inspiration and respect.
