PM Modi Invited By Donald Trump to Join Gaza Peace Board: Sources

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly been invited by US President Donald Trump to join the newly formed Board of Peace for Gaza, government sources told. The board is part of a United Nations-backed, US-led initiative to demilitarise and rebuild Gaza following two years of conflict between Israel and Hamas. Trump will chair the board.

The peace board comprises a main board, a Palestinian committee of technocrats to govern Gaza, and an executive board tasked with advisory responsibilities such as governance, reconstruction, investment attraction, and capital mobilisation. Sources said Trump sent a letter to PM Modi on January 16. Other invited leaders include Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Canadian PM Mark Carney, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan, though it is unclear if Modi has accepted the invitation.

The draft charter shared with 60 countries stipulates that members must contribute $1 billion to secure membership beyond three years. Founding members announced by Trump include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Executive Board member Nickolay Mladenov will serve as High Representative for Gaza, linking the Board of Peace with the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).

The board is part of Phase Two of the US-backed Gaza peace plan, which began in October 2025 with the return of hostages and cessation of active conflict. Israel has expressed opposition to the board’s announced composition, citing policy conflicts.
