Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 1 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 today at the Jio World Convention Centre, marking a historic moment for India’s creative and cultural sectors.
Under the theme “Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries,” the four-day summit aims to elevate India as a global hub for media, entertainment, and digital innovation.
Addressing delegates from over 90 countries, PM Modi said, “India, with a billion-plus population, is also a land of a billion-plus stories… Every village holds a new perspective. Truly, India has much more to offer.”
He invited the global creative community to “Create in India and Create for the World,” calling India’s cultural and storytelling heritage a “treasure trove rich in science, fiction, courage, and imagination.”
WAVES 2025 Highlights:
- 10,000+ delegates, 1,000 creators, 300 companies, and 350 startups expected.
- Covers film, OTT, AVGC-XR, AI, comics, and broadcasting sectors.
- Launch of the Global Media Dialogue (GMD) with participation from 25 countries.
- The WAVES Bazaar, an e-marketplace with 6,100 buyers, 5,200 sellers, and 2,100 projects.
- PM Modi to tour the Creatosphere and Bharat Pavilion showcasing India’s creative innovation and heritage.
The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) hosted a star-studded opening with:
- A 50-piece orchestra led by Oscar-winner MM Keeravaani,
- A welcome performance by Shreya Ghoshal, and
- Dramatic on-stage appearances by Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt.
