NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two major national highway projects in Rohini on Sunday, August 17, with a combined cost of nearly ₹11,000 crore. The projects, the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), are part of the government’s plan to decongest the capital, improve connectivity, and reduce travel time in the National Capital Region (NCR).
To facilitate the event, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory, urging commuters to avoid certain roads and plan their journeys accordingly. The advisory, in effect from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, affects vehicular movement in the Tikri Border, Peeragarhi, and Rohini areas.
Road Closures and Diversions
- Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) will be closed for the day.
- Rohtak Road will be closed for general traffic from Peeragarhi to Tikri Border and vice versa.
- Commercial vehicles are explicitly prohibited on Rohtak Road from Tikri Border to Peeragarhi. They are advised to use alternate routes, with diversion points including Ghevra More, Mundka Red Light, and Nangloi Chowk.
- Other affected roads include Bhagwan Mahavir Road, Bawana Road, Kanjhawala Road, Kanjhawala Link Road, and Badsha Dahiya Marg.
- In Rohini, vehicles will not be permitted on roads coming from the Ring Road. Divergent points include Madhuban Chowk, Deepali Chowk, and Jaipur Golden Hospital Crossing.
Alternative Routes and Public Transport
For those traveling from Tikri Border to Peeragarhi, the police have advised taking the Jharoda-Najafgarh-Nangloi Road. Local residents of Rohini are encouraged to use K.N. Katju Marg, Rohini Jail Marg, and other alternative routes.
The advisory also strongly recommends that commuters traveling on Rohtak Road or to and from Rohini consider using the Delhi Metro to avoid inconvenience and delays.
The projects, which will be inaugurated around 12:30 PM, are expected to significantly ease traffic on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads, and major congestion points like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09.
