Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Opposition during his visit to Assam on Saturday, December 20, 2025, asserting that the BJP government is systematically “correcting” the historical neglect of the Northeast.
Addressing a massive rally in Guwahati, the Prime Minister framed the region’s current development as “long-delayed justice” and accused previous Congress governments of compromising national security for vote-bank politics.
“Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) and National Security
A major highlight of the Prime Minister’s address was his strong defense of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
- The Objective: PM Modi stated that the exercise is designed to ensure “infiltrators” are purged from the electoral process to protect the identity and security of Assam.
- The “Deshdrohi” Jibe: He took a sharp dig at the INDIA bloc, claiming that while the government acts to stop infiltration, certain “deshdrohis” (traitors) are attempting to shield these illegal elements.
- Demographic Protection: “The Congress gave protection to infiltrators who grabbed forests and land…the BJP government is freeing these resources from illegal and anti-national encroachment,” the PM asserted.
