Neeraj Chopra Breaches 90m Mark At Doha Diamond League 2025, PM Modi Hails ‘Spectacular Feat’

In a historic moment for Indian athletics, two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra breached the 90-meter mark in men’s javelin for the first time ever, recording a personal best throw of 90.23 meters at the Doha Diamond League 2025 on Friday. Although the incredible performance placed him in the lead for most of the event, he was eventually overtaken by Germany’s Julian Weber, who clinched victory with a monstrous 91.06-meter throw in the final round.

Event Highlights: Chopra Breaks National Record

The Doha meet marked a remarkable season opener for the Indian star. Neeraj started strong with a throw of 88.44m, taking the early lead over rivals Anderson Peters of Grenada (85.64m) and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago (84.65m). His third throw of 90.23m was not only a personal best but also a new national record, surpassing his previous record of 89.94m set during the 2022 Stockholm Diamond League.

Despite two fouls and a 4th round throw of 80.56m, Neeraj remained in the lead until Julian Weber pulled off a stunning 91.06m throw in the final round, pushing Neeraj to second place. Anderson Peters secured third with a throw of 85.64m.

Neeraj Joins Elite 90m Club
