Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the unifying spirit of the Kumbh Mela, describing it as a “grand yajna of unity” that transcends caste and community distinctions. Speaking at a Mahakumbh Programme, PM Modi highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of the event, set to occur from January 13 to February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj.
Unity Through Tradition
PM Modi remarked:
“The Kumbh Mela is a grand yajna of unity, where all forms of discrimination are offered as a sacrifice. Here, every Indian who takes a dip in the Sangam presents an extraordinary picture of ‘One India, Great India.’ Saints, ascetics, sages, scholars, and common people come together, immersing themselves in the confluence of the three rivers. The distinction of castes disappears here, and the clash of communities is erased.”
He further stated that hosting the upcoming Maha Kumbh would elevate India’s cultural and spiritual identity to new heights:
“This Maha Kumbh will be such a Maha Yagya of unity that it will be discussed all over the world. Events like Maha Kumbh send a positive message to every corner of the country and society.”
Tribute to Workers and History
PM Modi praised the tireless efforts of workers and sanitation staff preparing for the event:
“I congratulate the workers and sanitation workers who are working day and night to make Maha Kumbh a success. A new history is being created on this land of Prayagraj.”
He also reflected on the historical role of Kumbh Mela in uniting people, even in the absence of modern communication:
“When there were no modern means of communication, events like Kumbh prepared the basis for big social changes.”
Criticism of Past Governments
The Prime Minister criticized previous governments for neglecting India’s cultural heritage, including events like Kumbh Mela.
“The previous governments did not give attention to Kumbh and religious pilgrimages. Devotees kept suffering in such events, but the governments of that time did not care because they lacked attachment to Indian culture. Today, the central and state governments respect Indian culture and ensure proper facilities for devotees,” he said.
Rituals and Blessings at Triveni Sangam
Earlier in the day, PM Modi performed rituals and sought blessings at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel, he conducted the ‘aarti’ and prayed for the success of Maha Kumbh, global welfare, and harmony.
Amid Vedic chants by Tirth Purohits, PM Modi offered Akshat, Chandan, Roli, flowers, and traditional clothing at the Triveni. He also sought blessings from prominent saints during the event.
Conclusion
PM Modi’s participation and address reaffirmed the significance of Kumbh Mela as a cultural and spiritual cornerstone for India. The preparations for Maha Kumbh reflect the government’s dedication to preserving and promoting India’s heritage on a global platform.
