PM Modi Gifts Traditional Indian Artifacts To Thai PM And Spouse During BIMSTEC Visit

Bangkok [Thailand]: During his official visit to Bangkok for the BIMSTEC Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented symbolic and intricately crafted Indian handicrafts to Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and her spouse, celebrating India’s rich artistic heritage.

As a tribute to traditional Indian artistry, PM Modi gifted a Dokra Brass Peacock Boat with a Tribal Rider to PM Shinawatra. The artifact is a striking example of the ancient Dokra metal casting technique, a heritage craft practiced by tribal communities in Chhattisgarh.

This unique sculpture showcases a peacock-shaped boat—symbolizing grace and cultural imagination—adorned with colorful lacquer inlays and intricate patterns. At its center is a tribal figure calmly rowing, representing the deep connection and harmony between humans and nature—an essential theme in Dokra art.

Crafted from brass using the lost-wax casting method, the piece is designed to age beautifully, developing a patina that enhances its vintage appeal. More than a decorative item, it is a meaningful reminder of India’s tribal legacy—evoking simplicity, creativity, and nature-inspired philosophy.

To the spouse of the Thai PM, PM Modi gifted a pair of Gold-Plated Tiger Motif Cufflinks with Pearls, which beautifully blend heritage and contemporary design. Embellished with the face of a majestic tiger, the cufflinks are a symbol of strength, leadership, and nobility.

Intricate Meenakari work—a traditional enameling craft from Rajasthan and Gujarat—adds vivid detail and color, highlighting India’s exquisite jewellery craftsmanship. The pearl bead border complements the powerful design with softness, creating a perfect harmony between boldness and elegance.

Crafted in high-quality silver with gold plating and finished with a bullet-back closure, the cufflinks are more than just fashion accessories—they are wearable expressions of cultural heritage and refined artistry.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi participated in the BIMSTEC Summit and endorsed the adoption of the BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030 and the BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Agreement. He reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation across various sectors within the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) framework.

On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi also held bilateral meetings with several global leaders, including Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, and Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
